Study screen

This is the screen where you'll spend most of your day: Tsunagi shows you a card's question, you try to recall the answer, and then you reveal the answer and grade yourself.

Answer buttons​

After seeing the answer, you grade yourself using one of four buttons:

  • Again: you couldn't recall it at all; the card comes back again soon.
  • Hard: you recalled it, but it was difficult.
  • Good: you recalled it normally.
  • Easy: you recalled it easily, with no difficulty at all.

Based on the grade you give, the scheduling algorithm decides when the next review happens. We cover the logic behind this in The Science. If you want, you can also show a small hint under each button indicating how many days/hours are left until the next review; this hint can be toggled on or off in settings.

Top toolbar​

Besides the answer buttons, the study screen's top toolbar offers these quick actions:

  • Bury: removes the card from today's study queue only. This also happens automatically, to keep "sibling" cards generated from the same note (for example, different blanks from a single Cloze note) from showing up back-to-back on the same day; you can also bury a card by hand to postpone its review for the day. It returns normally the next day.
  • Freeze: removes the card from the study queue indefinitely, until you manually unfreeze it (via "Unfreeze" in the card browser); unlike burying, it has no expiration. Use this for cards you no longer want to study, or want to suspend temporarily.
  • Flag: puts a color label on the card, used to highlight it or mark it to find again later. Details are on the next page.
  • Edit Note: lets you edit the note that card belongs to directly, without leaving the study flow.
  • Card Info: shows that card's scheduling history (when it was studied, average time, total time, past answers, and so on).

Note: Bury and Freeze are two different mechanisms: one is temporary (for the day), the other indefinite. You can also apply both actions in bulk to multiple cards at once from the card browser; we cover that in Settings and More → Card Browser.

The study screen currently has no keyboard shortcuts. You need to use touch or mouse input for both answering and toolbar actions.
