Quick Start
This page walks you through the three steps to start using Tsunagi right away: creating a deck, creating a card, and studying. If you want to look at the concepts in more depth, continue with The Practice.
1. Create a deck
On the home screen, tap the + button in the bottom right corner and pick Create Deck from the menu that opens. Give the deck a name and save it. If you want, you can first create a folder to group related topics and put the deck inside it, but that's not required.
2. Create a card
From the same + button, this time pick Create Card. Choose the deck the card belongs to, pick a card type (Basic (front/back) is enough to start with), fill in the Front and Back fields, and save. If you open the deck you just created and use its own "Create Card" shortcut instead, the deck is already selected for you.
When you save, Tsunagi automatically generates one or more flashes from your card; flashes, not cards, are the actual unit that enters the study queue. We explain the difference between cards and flashes on the card-flash distinction page.
3. Study
When you open the deck, you'll see a card at the top showing how many flashes are due today; tap Study!. On the study screen you first see the question, try to recall the answer, then reveal it and rate yourself with Again, Hard, Good, or Easy. The scheduling algorithm decides when the next repetition happens based on your rating; you can find the details on the study screen page.
That's it, you can now start studying flashes daily. If you're curious about the reasoning behind spaced repetition, continue with Introduction; if you want to learn Tsunagi's own concepts (card, flash, deck, folder) in more depth, continue with The Practice.
